Review:
For the most part, this was a pretty frustrating entry. When the film works, it's due to the generally intriguing setup that could've worked had it been given a chance to develop more. The idea of time-traveling, reincarnation, and fated destiny intertwining in a philosophical Action film offers an interesting idea as the idea of using various points in time and history to help a man uncover his true place and identity from forces conspiring to prevent it offers the kind of strong setup that could have some more weight behind it than just merely following a lone stranger shooting up the henchmen of an unknown villain trying to keep a dangerous secret from getting out. That sets up the kind of intriguing action here involving the various historical confrontations, from a WW II raid on a Nazi stronghold, a gladiatorial combat showing in Ancient Rome, and a feudal brawl with barbarians among others that are used to help piece together what's going on.
The issue with all this is that it feels far too complex and convoluted for its own good. The idea is sound but it just feels like far too much heavy-handed philosophizing was utilized at the expense of trying to interconnect everything present. This is mainly due to how it rarely manages to make sense with the whole affair dripping in deep-seated philosophical ruminations involving the possibility of fate, destiny, and the nature of human souls that could potentially set everything up but never go further than introducing these aspects before moving on to something else. It creates a wholly jarring and disjointed storyline by having everything jump around as we visit various points in history and different locations as well as trying to put together what's going on which all goes on in different directions trying to make sense, which brings it down overall.
Overview: **/5
A somewhat fun if problematic Action/thriller, there's enough going on to be worthwhile and enjoyable while still being let down by enough factors to be a middling effort overall. Those with an interest in the format or are curious about this kind of feature will have the most to enjoy here while most others out there should heed caution with this one.
