Part of a covert government agency, twin sisters operating as assassins for a covert agency are assigned to a special case where they’re to take out a target at their home. When they arrive, they find the whole operation was a trap to split them up and recruit the survivor into a radical criminal organization, forcing them to rely on their skills and a trust in each other to get out alive.
Review:
Overall, this was a fairly solid indie action effort. Among the better features of this one is a rather strong and far more engaging storyline than expected, which makes this feel more in-depth than just a standard-issue Action film. The idea of the twins working together for the agency and being sent out on multiple missions makes for a fun starting gimmick, much like the idea of using one of them returning from maternity leave and trying to balance the work-life dynamic involved here, as being a hired assassin with a newborn makes her an easy target. That gets explored in the main mission they undertake, which pits them inside a house rigged with random traps and henchmen designed to instil them with the opportunity to fight to the death for the opportunity to join their organization. It’s a solid enough idea and manages to provide this with some solid enough intrigue as they make their way through the various traps and figures hunting them down, trying to determine who’s behind it all.
As well, there’s also a series of effective low-budget action scenes here that come together incredibly well and keep this one moving along. Mixing a string of hand-to-hand combat scenes that aren’t over-the-top or flashy, but are at least brutal and realistic forms of martial arts scenes that would normally be found in these kinds of scenarios, with a fun series of gun battles to generate a strong enough series of setpieces throughout the house to carry on this setup. With the first half showing them on various assignments while reserving the last two-thirds to staying in the house, fighting each other or the various goons in there with them, the action within this is immensely fun and works incredibly nicely. Some of the twists here at this point feel quite overdone and not that interesting in terms of being original when it’s immensely obvious what’s going on, making it feel less impactful when it becomes quite predictable at the wrong point. As well as some obvious low-budget limitations that are also present, these all bring this one down just enough compared to the positives.
Overview: ***.5/5
A far more enjoyable-than-expected indie action effort, this one comes together quite well and offers plenty to like, though it's let down by a few minor issues overall. Those with an interest in this kind of subject matter or who are curious about it will have a lot to like here, while those turned off by the flaws on display will want to heed caution.
