Review:
Overall, this was a solid and effective follow-up. Among the better elements to be had here is the idea of this one serving up a plausible enough storyline to allow everything to come across rather nicely. The whole approach here is the vigilante from the first one taking a break after taking everything out that she needed to and now being able to enjoy life again with her friend, only to be thrust back into the violent lifestyle when the friend gets killed and a deadly criminal gang sets out to get revenge on her for what happened earlier. The way they set out to do this by going around and mugging, looting, and stealing from whoever they can so she gets word back about being needed again, and they have the perfect setup to get their revenge on her, serves everything quite well, with everything setting up the motivation to return and the group to head back onto the streets. As well, there's also the police officers investigating the crime spree and trying to make sure there's not a repeat of the vigilante incident from before repeating again to tie that up as well, making this all get enough of a setup to move things along quite nicely for the most part.
This all serves to get the action scenes involved in her rampage all set up to generate a slew of cheesy, enjoyably goofy setpieces that take place around town and the surrounding woods. The whole series of encounters here, reliant on the criminals getting to create chaos with their interactions against regular citizens and having her show up to stop everything with either her guns or other weapons, leaves this with some decent scenes of her stopping muggings on the street, a chase through a brothel looking after several potential targets, and the big shootout with several gang members out in the city where everything comes together in rather fun, brief spurts that utilize its indie aesthetics to its best point. This does run into the same issue that the original one did, where the setup of everything comes off more like a series of unrelated skits without much of a throughline than anything, focusing on the different interactions as if the criminal gang is trying to stop her and she keeps powering through before repeating it all again, leaving the film to be all setup in the first half and then pay off afterward. The low-budget limitations are also in play here, but beyond that, there's a lot to like here.
Overview: ****/5
A really solid indie genre effort, there's a lot to like here for what it's trying to be that it manages to be quite enjoyable overall despite a few slight drawbacks present holding it back. Those with an appreciation for this style or approach, who enjoyed the original entry, or who are fans of the creative crew will have the most to like here, as most others should heed caution.
